Diabetes and Weight Issues- Taking Care of Your Health
Diabetes can often contribute to heart issues caused by obesity, but there are things to do to keep it under control and I’ll discuss those in this post.
Diabetes is a disease that takes place when the body is not able to produce enough insulin. Insulin is required to regulate glucose (sugar) in the blood which provides energy when you need it.
Besides contributing to cardiovascular disease, diabetes can increase the risk of developing damage to the nerves, damage to the blood vessels, blindness and kidney disease.
It’s estimated more than 80 percent of those who suffer from diabetes die from some kind of blood vessel disease or heart disease.
The two kinds of diabetes that exist in the world include juvenile diabetes which develops in childhood and adult-onset diabetes. The latter is often associated with obesity. It can be controlled and/or delayed with exercise and eating a healthy, nutritious diet on a regular basis. If you suffer from adult-onset diabetes then you need to lose weight if your weight is too high and then to maintain the ideal weight once you reach it.
The effective management of diabetes involves living a healthy lifestyle.
What that entails is eating a regular well-balanced diet, exercising, not smoking (or quitting smoking) and sensible control of your weight. You need to find ways to regulate your sugar intake as well as to lower the fat in your diet. By so doing you will control your blood fats and lipids. Fat control becomes much more effective in your life when you choose a daily diet that is low in fat, low in cholesterol and is combined with consistent physical activity.
To control your glucose level you need a healthy mix of high and low glycemic index foods and to mention it again – an exercise regimen you do on a regular basis. The reality of the matter for a diabetic is that diet and weight management is an absolute necessity of life.
If you are a diabetic and you weigh too much then you have to start right now to lose the weight. This will help you to be a healthier person and will improve your condition. Before you begin any sort of exercise for weight loss plan always speak with your doctor about it. As a diabetic you have special considerations in this regard. Be safe and smart about your health!
Diet Advice for the Diabetic:
Your blood glucose level is affected by what you eat, when you eat and how you eat. In order to keep your blood glucose at a healthy level you need to observe certain diet rules. First of all, eat approximately the same portion of food each and every day and at approximately the same times of the day to develop a steady routine. Consume foods from the following food groups:
- vegetable and fruits
- milk and yogurt
- meat and meat substitutes
- starches
Consider how many calories you need to take in per day and let that help you decide how much of each one of these food groups you need to consume. Be conscientious of how much fat you eat per day. Limit to the best of your ability.
Exercise every day if possible and when you do exercise do it at the same time. This helps to establish a physical fitness routine. Remember to exercise for no longer than 20 minutes but be consistent. The same goes for your medication – take it at the same intervals every day.
Diabetes is a serous condition but which can be controlled by eating healthy foods and controlling your weight.
