How to Live a Chemical Free Life with these Simple Changes
In our fast paced stress induced world living a healthy lifestyle and eating good food can be one of our greatest challenges. Here’s some simple tips to help.
There is nothing wrong or shameful about convenience and easy decisions. Time is precious and the less we have to spend thinking about getting through the day the quicker we can get to the things important to us.
Unfortunately, sometimes the products we think give us back precious time by convenience, do so at a price they don’t always advertise.
So here are some suggestions to make healthier choices about what you put in your body without impacting your precious free time.
- If organic products are a part of your life presently than you’ve already started down the chemical free path. The food you put into your body is the ideal place to start. Shop at local farmers markets and buy organic fruits and vegetables. You may pay a higher price for your produce but you’ll make healthier choices because the food is not sprayed with fertilizers or pesticides.
- When it comes to meat and poultry buy free range (or free roam) products. These are hormone free and are your guarantee the animals were treated more humanely. When you buy dairy products purchase those containing no hormones. Or perhaps you might want to switch to soy milk. Sample different brands until you find those most enjoyable for your taste buds – you don’t have to sacrifice taste when you purchase healthy food.
- Do you cook with non-stick pans? If yes then the news isn’t so good for the health of your family. The chemical used to bond the non-stick coating is PFOA and this substance has been linked to birth defects in babies, a variety of cancers and high cholesterol. PFOA sometimes goes under the name C-8. Essentially when you cook with these pans you end up eating some of the coating with your food because it combines during the cooking process. Switch to ceramic, cast-iron or steel cookware.
- Living a chemical free life doesn’t necessarily involve making huge changes in your life. It’s about being aware of what is harmful and what isn’t. It’s about finding ways to improve your health and well-being in every way possible. For example, microwaves ovens are a wonderful kitchen appliance but you should never heat anything in plastic in them. This includes bowls, plates, baby bottles and food storage containers. What happens when you heat plastic is that chemicals are released from the container into the food or the drink you then ingest. Choose microwave safe dishes not composed of plastic material at all. Continue to use your microwave but be smart about what you heat up in it.
- When it comes to hygiene products such as soaps, shampoos, deodorants, lotions and the like look for plant-based organic products. Two lines of products that are organic and very good include Alba and Avalon. These products are not just better for your skin and your hair but they’re better for the environment and are not tested on animals.
More and more companies are going organic and becoming environmentally aware.
There are many things you can do to live a healthy life and steer free of dangerous chemicals. You’ll help yourself on the inside and the outside. Your new found energy and vitality will encourage others around you to want to do the same!
