Isn’t This Hypnosis Stuff Just Hocus-Pocus?

Isn't this just smoke and mirrors stuff?

Isn't this really all smoke and mirrors?

While hypnosis is an accredited therapy by the American Medical Association(AMA) it’s still misunderstood by many people who still think of it as magical hocus-pocus as opposed to a viable method of therapy.

Hypnosis is not magic. It is a form of concentrated relaxation AND a powerful tool that interacts with the subconscious mind.

In the subconscious it loosens the hold that habits and phobias have over us and hold us back, and changes our mental landscape to reflect positive thoughts and ideas.

“The purpose of hypnosis as a therapeutic technique is to understand and gain more control over your behavior, emotions or physical well-being.” (The Mayo Clinic, 2003).

According to Prevention Magazine, hypnosis has tremendous healing power. It can ease pain, fight cancer, improve fertility and speed up the healing process (1996).

If you are a skeptic at heart then that is good but let the research speak for itself …

New Scientist Magazine published an extensive study in 1992 that yielded the result that just one hypnotherapy treatment is effective in improving a person’s chances of quitting smoking by 1000 percent from 6 percent to 60 percent.”  (see report here).

These findings led the researchers to say that “Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit.”

One session of stop smoking hypnosis can be as much as 60 percent more effective than other therapies including nicotine replacement therapy, acupuncture and trying to use your own sense of self discipline and willpower to quit.

Hypnosis is an Effective Quit Smoking and Weight Loss Method

Hypnosis is a therapy that retrains the brain to not yearn for nicotine or unhealthy food. A professional hypnotist will work to educate your subconscious not to want to smoke or eat a poor diet. It’ll help you feel like a non-smoker or change your eating habits to healthy food in appropriate portions to lose weight and keep it off.

Hypnosis doesn’t just work on the physical side it’s also effective at rebuilding the confidence level of the patient. It’s important to realize that you’ll still be you even without the presence of cigarettes or the extra pounds in your life. Hypnosis gets rid of the bad habits that circulate in your subconscious and replaces them with positive, life affirming thoughts that provide you with feelings of hope and success.

In 2004, Business Week had to say this about hypnosis as a form of treatment, “There’s entrancing news about hypnosis; it’s gaining credibility as a treatment for a multitude of troubles, from nicotine addiction to post-traumatic stress disorder.”

This hypnosis stuff could not be further from hocus-pocus. If you are a smoker who wants desperately to quit and start a new lifestyle for yourself, or somebody who has tried unsuccessfully all the expensive weight loss meal plans of counting calories, then here you have been provided with a proven alternative to tackle any habits you want to break, or goals you want to achieve.

And there’s nothing hocus-pocus about that!

In my practice in Massachusetts I offer both private stop smoking hypnosis and weight loss hypnosis sessions.
