Ten Ways to Improve Your Exercise Regimen (Part Two)
If you are looking for ways to improve your exercise habits and to keep motivated then the good news is that there is an abundance of ways to do this! In part one we looked at five ways.
These ways included modifying your workouts, enlisting the help of a personal trainer and eating a healthy diet which includes drinking an adequate amount of water.
We also included recognizing quality matters more when you work out than quantity and mind-body training is an important aspect of getting into shape.
Here we continue our look at five more ways to improve your exercise regimen.
6. Work out when it is most convenient for you:
There are times of the day that are generally speaking better for exercising than others.
For example, you do not want to exercise right before bedtime as it’ll make it hard for you to fall asleep. However everyone’s schedule isn’t the same and therefore it’s important to find a time most fitting for you. Schedule your workout time for your convenience. You should also schedule exercise when you’ve the most energy. Some people feel that way first thing in the morning while others prefer to work out in the afternoons. You decide what is best for you. The important thing is that you exercise. Period.
7. Find an exercise partner:
Nothing is more motivating than finding someone to work out with. Whether you’re looking for a walking or running partner, a biking buddy or someone to take an aerobics class. You’ll be more focused and motivated if you have someone to enjoy it with.
It’ll also give you time to chat, laugh and take things up a notch by adding some friendly competition to the mix.
8. Add some extra enjoyment with some musical notes:
Whether you like rock and roll, country music or keep current with the top 40 hits, music and physical activity were made for each another.
Music is an excellent partner if you cannot find an exercise buddy and it helps to take some of the stress out of exercising. Music makes your exertion easier to bear! Whether you’re running on a treadmill at home or in the gym or biking a mile or two, enjoy your favorite songs while you sweat!
9. Realize the important role that breathing plays when you work out:
Breathing is vital for life and it’s something you should become aware of, especially when you’re exercising. When you engage in any type of cardiovascular exercise, always take full, complete breaths to allow for an ample supply of oxygen. When you’re engaging in strength training exercises, full breaths are also of tremendous importance – when exerting, breathe out, and upon releasing, breathe in.
10. Buy yourself a heart-rate monitor and use it faithfully:
Use a heart-rate monitor to let you know how hard you are exercising. Your target heart rate will guide you in having the most superior and fulfilling of workouts.
You might want to first research what your heart rate should be when you are working out strenuously (or even when you are not pushing yourself that hard!). It differs according to a person’s age and fitness level. The same can be said for resting heart rate. It is not the same for everyone.
