Top Ten Uses of Hypnosis for Challenges and Self-Improvement
Hypnosis can be used to help with a number of life challenges and self-improvement outcomes. Here I look at the most common and effective uses of hypnosis.
The current landscape of the hypnotherapy world is very different from it’s early days back in the 1950’s and 1960’s when it was just being accepted as an alternative therapy to drugs by the medical profession. Even today there are some old school medical Doctors who reach for the drugs before alternatives.
But today it has become the preferred alternative to drugs for tackling issues such as smoking cessation and weight loss. And there’s no doubt our mind is a powerful tool we can benefit from to help cope and improve our life.
1. Bad Habit Cessation:
One of the most frequent uses of hypnosis is to eradicate a bad habit. Hypnosis can be used to quit smoking, lose weight, control a fiery temper, picking you nails to mention just a few. If you’re suffering from more than one bad habit then it’s important to deal with each one in turn and not to get overwhelmed by trying to fix everything all at once.
2. Coping with a Fear or Phobia:
A fear on its own is detrimental enough to one’s life but once it turns into a phobia it can negatively affect how a person lives their day-to-day life. Hypnosis is an effective tool in coping with fears and phobias such as flying, heights, confined or open spaces, insects – please don’t ask about snakes – and many other issues that can quickly reach a point where they end up ruling your life.
3. Relief from Stress and Anxiety:
Today we live in a fast-paced and demanding world. The always-on aspect of work and activity commitments as a parent can leave us feeling drained, unappreciated, and anxious. While stress and anxiety can’t be removed completely, coping with them is an achievable goal. If the stress in your life has taken on extreme proportions then hypnosis can help you better cope with it so you don’t feel overwhelmed with no place to turn.
4. Self-Esteem Enhancement:
You suffer from low self-esteem if you don’t value who you are. Having high self-esteem on the other hand is about seeing your worth and having a positive self image. If your beliefs about yourself are more on the low side than the high side then hypnosis can show you the way back to the real you who is unique and worthwhile. You can’t expect people to value you if you don’t value yourself first.
5. Self-Confidence Booster:
Self-confident people feel good about themselves and feel competent in the choices they make in their own lives. They do not second guess themselves and aren’t constantly assailed by doubts. If you are the opposite of this then you could benefit from a hypnosis session in confidence booster. Just as hypnosis can help you with your self-esteem, so it can provide you tools to overcome lack of confidence.
6. Pain Management Assistance:
If you suffer from pain as a result of an ongoing health condition then hypnosis can provide you with pain management tools. Hypnosis cannot make the pain go away for good but it can provide relief of intensity for you. Pain management hypnosis is particularly beneficial for those who suffer from nerve injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, joint pain, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and injuries of the spinal cord. However, new pain, regardless of the intensity, should be diagnosed by your physician first to ensure there’s no other obvious health condition that requires medical treatment.
7. Improve Athletic Performance:
In recent years using hypnosis to improve athletic performance is one of the fastest growing areas for hypnotists. Olympic caliber athletes have long understood how you think about training and competition strongly influences your results. Seeing yourself winning and feeling confident of your own capabilities is as important as the hours of training and practice required to perform at a high level. But it’s not only world-class athletes that can benefit from this thought process. Hypnosis can help overcome limitations in performance and increase an athletes belief they can reach their goals.
8. Make Your Life Experience Happier:
If life has become a drag and you’d describe yourself as a unhappy person (and perhaps not even a contented one) then hypnosis can uncover what the problem is and can help restore your equilibrium in order to bring more sunshine, happiness, smiles and laughter into your life. Now don’t confuse unhappiness with depression. If you suspect you’re suffering with depression then consult with a physician first. Come back to hypnosis if you don’t get the outcomes you desire after the prescribed treatment.
9. Improve Your Ability to Concentrate:
Concentration and focus both at home and at work can become derailed for any number of reasons. As long as the root of the problem is not physical, hypnosis can help to calm your mind in order to teach it how to regain its focus so you can concentrate on a task in front of you without being distracted at every turn.
10. Help with Public Speaking:
Many people are afraid to speak in front of other people, be it a large crowd or a small crowd. In poll after poll it is cited as one of the top fears of people after snakes and sometimes above death. Hypnosis can re-educate your subconscious to view public speaking in a positive manner. It can rid your mind of anxiety, fear and nervousness and replace it with enthusiasm, confidence and the excitement that comes from a new challenge.
This isn’t a complete list of areas hypnosis can benefit an individual. Therapeutic hypnotists tend to specialise in just a few of these topics and so if you need help always discuss your goals and outcomes with a hypnotist, and ensure they have the knowledge and experience in the specific area of help you need.
