Weight Loss Fables – The Six Worst You Need to Avoid! (Part Two)

More myths and untruths about weight loss

There are many incorrect assumptions and ideas about weight loss that exposing them to the light is essential for a person’s health and well being. These fables can lead you down a path of frustration in getting to the right size.

We continue in part two with three more of the most common weight loss fables that probably someone you know (or many people you know) believe to be the truth!

For part one of this weight loss series go here.

Number Four- Eating foods after supper or later in the evening will lead to weight gain:

At least every second or third person you speak to is likely to believe this one. The reality is if you take in more calories than you burn off you’ll gain weight. The excess  you have will be stored as fat. If you wish to lose weight you therefore must do the exact opposite to this – you must consume a lesser amount of calories and burn off more than you consume. Period.

It doesn’t therefore matter what time of day or night you consume the calories. What matters is how much food you consume and how much you burn off through exercise in the run of a day. Of course some people can’t sleep on a full stomach but that’s a different issue altogether.

Number Five – Snacking between meals will never make weight loss happen:

Although most people eat three meals a day and an occasional snack, it’s actually healthier for the body to feed it six or seven small meals or snacks instead. If you do decide to have a snack between meals as long as it’s small and nutritious it can actually do your health plenty of good. The snack will contribute to strong metabolism and it’ll keep your blood sugar at a stable level. Snacking between meals in a healthy manner also acts as a way to discourage you from overeating at your next meal.

To feel satiated for longer choose fiber-rich foods such as bran muffins, oatmeal, whole wheat toast, mixed raw vegetables and sourdough pretzels. If you’re not getting enough fat in your diet this can mean your energy levels will be low. To pump it up higher, snack on nuts such as almonds or walnuts which are an excellent source of protein.

Another healthy snack idea is to combine two snacks together. For example, smear some peanut butter on an apple. Keep in mind the skin of the apple contains the largest percentage of fiber. Graham crackers and yogurt make for a very healthy snack as well.

While we’re on the topic of yogurt, this is an excellent choice for a dairy product for those who don’t enjoy drinking milk. Yogurt will make you feel full and energized. Look for a brand that contains probiotics such as L. acidophilus which is a live bacterial culture instrumental in the maintenance of a healthy digestive tract.

Number Six – Skipping meals (and in particular breakfast) will help in the quest to lose weight:

Not so! In fact when you skip meals you can actually put on more weight! When you go without eating a meal, your level of metabolism drops and you become very hungry as a result of not eating. When you eat again you’ll be inclined to eat too much.

You’ll also not meet the daily calorie requirement essential for your good health. In particular, breakfast is the worst meal of the day to go without. People who eat a healthy breakfast are less likely to overeat later in the day. It’s easier to lose weight, and to maintain a healthy weight, if you start every day with a healthy breakfast.

This topic of meals and breakfast is covered extensively in Erika’s private and group weight loss hypnosis program.
