Here&#8217;s how it&#8217;s used.<\/p>\n<p>EFT stands for<strong> Emotional Freedom Technique<\/strong> and the tapping involved in EFT is also sometimes referred to as <em>meridian tapping<\/em>. It&#8217;s a form of energy psychology that can be useful to control cravings.<\/p>\n<p>Proponents of EFT believe that negative emotions occur because there&#8217;s an energy imbalance in the body and mind that needs correcting.<\/p>\n<p>The techniques involved in EFT may seem a little odd at first but for a person who wishes to control their cravings it&#8217;s an easy therapy to learn and put to use. The procedure involves tapping well established energy meridian points on your face and upper body.<\/p>\n<p>These points are similar to those used in acupuncture.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not uncommon to crave cigarettes when you&#8217;re feeling a great deal of stress and anxiety and this is what EFT addresses &#8211; the emotions that underlie the behavior. It&#8217;s not willpower or lack thereof that makes people crave cigarettes but the unresolved emotions that lie beneath.<\/p>\n<p>This is why many people fall back into the smoking habit once they&#8217;ve given it up. Smoking fills a need that hasn&#8217;t been replaced by anything else. What needs to be done to end the smoking &#8220;<em>misery-go-round<\/em>&#8221; is to bring your negative feelings and thoughts to the surface and neutralize them. Only then can you start to once again be in control of your life.<\/p>\n<p>EFT is not just about tapping but about affirming to yourself a problem exists and then getting to the bottom of it. This emotional version of acupuncture is something you can teach yourself or you can learn from a qualified practitioner &#8211; as mentioned earlier many <strong>hypnotists teach the technique to smoking cessation clients<\/strong> to control post-session cravings.<\/p>\n<p>EFT proposes to eliminate blocked emotional passages and then interrupt these negative habitual thought patterns.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes when doing EFT you need to get tough with yourself and it can be emotionally draining to do so. As you tap you need to tell yourself a story in order to get to the emotions, or event that got the addiction to nicotine started in the first place. For example you might tap and say to yourself:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Even though cigarettes make me feel good<\/strong> \u2026<br \/>\n<em>Even though I have been smoking for years<\/em> \u2026<br \/>\n<strong>Even though I know stopping for good is difficult <\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Some people get a little meaner with themselves and use self-statements to zero in on how bad their addiction makes them feel about themselves by saying such things as:<\/p>\n<p><em>Even though I crave cigarettes they make me feel weak<\/em>.<br \/>\n<strong>Even though I love cigarettes I don\u2019t want to rely on them to feel better<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>EFT tapping and hypnosis can be effectively used to disable cigarette cravings and to set you down the path to healing.
