However, there are certain things in life that can cause you to age faster, just as the reverse is true.

Healthy living in the form of eating nutritious foods, exercising on a regular basis and limiting your exposure to the sun can slow the aging process while habits such as smoking can accelerate it.

Taking preventative measures in your life right now can reduce further damage to your body and your skin from occurring.

Making the decision to stop smoking right now can add more years to your life (smoking robs the average person of 14 years of life) and you can also begin to reverse some of the damage that has been done to your skin already.

Smoker’s face isn’t an appealing sounding term is it?

Maybe not, but it’s a term recognized by the medical community. The term smoker’s face was added to the medical dictionary in 1985. The definition of smoker’s face is, “Lines or wrinkles on the face, particularly radiating at right angles from the upper and lower lips or corners of the eyes, deep lines on the cheeks or numerous shallow lines on the cheeks and lower jaw.”

Still other characteristics of smoker’s face include gray skin pallor and a subtle gauntness of the features with prominence when it comes to the underlying bony contours.

Every time you take a puff on a cigarette as many as 100 trillion dangerous oxidants enter your body. This is bad for every part of your body including your largest organ- your skin. The reason so many smokers have a grayish look to their complexion is because the oxygen supply to their skin is not adequate and is greatly diminished, as compared to a non-smoker’s skin.

When the supply of oxygen to the skin is reduced this increases the risk of premature wrinkles. The longer you have smoked, and the more you smoke, the greater the risk.

Research has borne out all of these truths. Studies looking into the connection between smoking and premature aging have found smoking causes the cells “telomeres” to shorten even faster than they would ordinarily.

Telomeres are the tips of the chromosomes which contain the all-important DNA. Telomeres shorten throughout a person’s lifetime as a result of the normal aging process but this process is sped up in those who smoke and cause, as you now know, Smoker’s Face.

Smoking is bad news for the body no matter how you look at it, but it gives the aging process a helping hand in moving at a faster rate!

A smoker’s overall state of health goes through a premature breakdown as a result of their habit.

This is true both for the internal elements of the body as well as the external elements. Smoking can also slow the healing and recovery process. This means that smokers can take longer to heal when they get sick, suffer an injury or have surgery.

There are a number of skin care products on the market but many can damage the DNA of your skin and stop it repairing itself. One skin care product that has been used for helping with smokers face and helps repair your skin’s DNA is called Revive: DNA Rejuvenation Cream.

Finally, if you’re interested in more information about my own online or in-office sessions then check out my stop smoking hypnosis programs.

Erika Slater, CH
Director
Free At Last Hypnosis

Smokers face is when the smoking habit causes premature aging of your skin through color, condition, and wrinkles – here’s why and what you can do about it.

[986
985
post-1011","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-treatments","tag-news-and-trends
["GET
